Lori Crumpton October Post -Section 1- Not This: Is There Enough Time?

I found the information in No More Independent Reading Without Support to be so interesting. The chapter talked about every teacher's issue of how to find time to stop and read during the day. Our curriculum is already so full with things constantly being added, as well as pull out programs to make the day more interesting!  Time for independent reading can be a challenge and time to discuss with each child even more of a challenge. The book also addresses that once students do start reading or look like it, how do you know they aren't faking. Kids can fool you! Students do need teachers to guide them in their reading, and for teachers to monitor and give feedback to that student

  1. I agree Lori! Independent reading time in the past was a lot different. Students could possibly get by with "Fake Reading." With teachers monitoring and conferencing, students will hopefully see the importance independent reading.

  2. I also agree that children can fool you and will when given the opportunity. You have a unique situation with your students since their curriculum is very specific. I would love to hear about how you give feedback when children are working on projects and presentations.
